Enabling students from desert schools to continue their education at the middle school level: this is the goal of this coeducational boarding school, located near the Aderbissinat middle school.

In Niger, and particularly in the villages of the Agadez region, many children do not continue their education beyond middle school. The reason? Middle schools in the area are few and far between, often located too far from villages, and boarding schools are almost non-existent. As a result, parents often choose to keep their children at home rather than send them to towns to stay with families they barely know. This is especially true for girls, who are often married off at a very young age.

At the request of parents and the teacher at the Intawagré school—whose latest class performed exceptionally well in the entrance exams for sixth grade—we decided to create a boarding school in Aderbissinat for children from remote areas. This coeducational facility will open in September 2024, welcoming around fifty children. It will be locally managed by the NGO Tidène, with support from the U.S.-based NGO Rain for the Sahel and Sahara.

After a site visit with the prefecture, members of the NGO Tidène, and the town’s mayor, construction began in late 2023. This was made possible thanks to funding from KSB teams mobilized during the Olympiades du Cœur and the *Fonds Pour Eux*. A huge thank you to them!
